Yesterday I got away from the city and went to visit my lovely friends who live in the woods. They have the most amazing, hands-on lifestyle.
Of course it’s pretty hard-core in the winter and they are super busy most of the year, managing the woodland as well as doing retreats and courses in woodland skills, but they’ve created a forest garden and both their young children were born in a yurt in the woods. These gorgeous friends are so grounded! They have actively chosen the life they are leading. How many of us can say, hand on heart, that we’ve done the same? The courage needed to leave behind what is safe and known is immense. And we all have that courage in is.
Visiting my woodland friends really reminded me of how important it is to follow our hearts and do work we love in the way we love it. It’s so easy to get bogged down in living life as we think we ‘should’ (for sure, I get caught up in this too), rather than living life in a way that feels whole-hearted and right, even in the hard times.
It is my life’s work to connect with what makes my heart sing and my soul breathe deep and slow. Deciding I wanted to live fully – authentic and in-tune – was only the beginning of the journey. If, like me, you’re drive and passion comes from questing for deep and lasting happiness and peace, it’s really important that we embrace this as a gentle, life-long mission, not something that we beat ourselves up for not achieving faster.
Getting away from my daily life and immersing myself in nature got me thinking my reoccurring questions, “Who am I?” and “What am I doing this all for?”. I’m reading the fabulous Brene Brown’s ‘The Gifts of Imperfection’. I love this woman! She is so human, so grounded, so REAL and so incredibly inspiring. She is a quester too, passing on lessons of wisdom as she learns them, spreading the seeds of self-love and compassion for ourselves. As I tap into my questions, the answer begin to surface.
Who am I? I am me; discovering and and honouring my uniqueness more and more as the weeks, months and years go by. I am me; learning to trust that this uniqueness is needed and wanted in the world. I am me; nurturing my courage and vulnerability, learning to be proud of who I am and who I am becoming.
What am I doing this all for? I am doing this all, my work, my relationship, my self-development, because it brings me alive! I feel passionate, on purpose and excited by all that is unfolding. I’ve realised that everything I do is made important because it helps me to evolve. Running a business inspires me to learn and evolve. Being in a conscious relationship inspires me to learn and evolve. Wanting to be happy and at peace inspires me to learn and evolve.
Thank you for reading this post-woodland download! Have compassion for yourself, gentle down and enjoy your journey. You are a beautiful soul.
