Eating Out with Raw Food

Eating out

The majority of us love eating out, but if you’re a raw foodie, it’s common to feel a little restricted in your choices. When you go to a restaurant and the menu’s dominated by unhealthy cooked options, sometimes it seems as if you’ve got no choice but to jump off the raw food wagon for an evening and overindulge in food that isn’t good for you. It can often turn what should be a fun evening out into an evening of
feeling frustrated that you’re eating food that doesn’t make you feel good.

A Healthier Way of Dining Out

The reality is that it’s actually really easy to eat out healthily, you’ve just got to know how! As more people search for a healthier alternative to cooked and processed foods, raw food is becoming more popular than ever before. As a result, raw food cafes and restaurants are springing up in towns and cities all across the United Kingdom. Although this progression is slower than many of us would like, as a society we are gradually becoming more health conscious, and the way that we eat is changing to reflect this.

Changing Your Expectations

However, if you don’t happen to have a raw food eatery near you, or you can’t tempt your non-raw friends out to one, it’s still really easy to find a restaurant that offers both traditional cooked food, as well as healthy salad alternatives. It’s just about changing your perspective – if you expect eating out healthily to be easy, it will be! Do a little research beforehand – check out a potential restaurant’s menu, see if they have a salad bar, or if they offer a good selection of healthy vegetarian alternatives. If they don’t, cross it off the list and try somewhere else – it really is as easy as that!

Culinary Creativity

The other option is to try to appeal to a chef’s creativity. Explain that you’re eating raw food for health reasons and ask (politely!) if they could whip you up a special dish using all raw ingredients. You’ll be surprised at just how many chef’s will happily accommodate, as it’s a chance for them to show off their culinary talents, deviate from the usual menu and create a dish that they wouldn’t otherwise get to prepare. It’s a sure-fire way to get their creative juices flowing, and the chances are that you’ll end up getting something far more delicious than anything else on the menu.

Putting the Fun Back into Eating Out!

Eating out is a great way of spending quality time with friends and loved ones, and just because you might share different food preferences doesn’t mean that you can’t find a place to eat that suits everyone. Being a raw foodie just means that you do a little more investigating before you go. And the most rewarding thing about doing this is that you often end up stumbling across these wonderful little gems of restaurants that you probably wouldn’t have otherwise tried. Raw food is all about being curious enough to ask questions and being willing to explore and try new things. And you’ll find that by asking the right questions and being brave enough to try something new, eating out will become a more enjoyable experience than ever before.
