Nature is the balancing element we all need to feel more at one with ourselves and the world around us.  Getting in touch with nature, whether it’s in the wilderness, your garden or your local park, helps to calm and centre you in a unique way that feeds your senses and your soul.  Making a commitment to spend time on your own outside everyday, experiencing the natural world, will change your life – literally!  So here are my 5 motivating reasons to spend time in nature, focusing on its beauty and texture each day …

1 – Fresh air and exercise make your brain function better as you absorb more oxygen into your system.  You will feel brighter and clearer after a walk in nature.

2 – Experiencing your senses through nature is therapeutic, unlike inside your home where your senses tend to remind you of what you have to do, or in the city where you are surrounded by noise pollution and visual overload.  Try doing a sense walk in nature, where you focus on one sense for 5 minutes or more:  sight – get up close to things, notice movement, texture and colour; sound – listen for sounds near and far; touch – put petals, leaves and bark to your lips and cheeks to truly feel their textures, run your hands through grass or over textures; smell – get down and smell the earth.

3 – The natural world has a rhythm unlike ours and surrounding ourselves with nature distracts us from our often unhealthy rhythms, tuning us into our true selves and releasing stress and tension.

4 – Spending time in nature everyday is regular you-time and soul-food that will help you keep perspective on life – just try 15 minutes or more each day and see how you are able to make decisions more easily and be more balanced in your relationships.

5 – Taking a daily break in nature will help you work better.  A period of true rest and replenishment on a soul and mind level helps you focus with greater clarity when you are back at your desk.

So, decide to have that nature experience everyday, remaining open and curious to how it changes how you feel and how that in turn impacts your life positively.
